Rail

The rail industry can benefit from the unique properties of the Harness Technologies nonwoven in a number of ways. These include:

  • Cost. With the increased volatility of petroleum prices affecting foams and regular fibers, the Harness Technologies product offers some unique cost advantages. Since the raw materials consist of a reliable supply of post-industrial waste and since Harness controls the entire process of acquisition, tearing and web formation, Harness can hold the line on rising costs and reliably supply materials with little risk of interruption or uncontrolled price increases.
  • Performance. The unique micro-fiber construction can offer performance benefits in the following areas:
    • Acoustic. We feel the Harness product performs measurably better than standard shoddy based products. See the graph of the normal incident absorption (ASTM E1050) showing Harness Technologies pad versus others – click here.
    • Thermal. Because of micro-fiber technology, we feel the Harness nonwoven pad will perform as well as if not better than many competitive pads. Tests are underway to support this claim.
    • Weight. The micro-fiber construction will allow engineering of weight and density to achieve high levels of thermal and acoustical performance while at the same time reducing the basis weight.
    • Vibration damping. In higher density constructions of the Harness Technologies nonwoven, well engineered placement of these pads can help reduce vibration from a number of different sources.
  • Quality and consistency. As mentioned above, since Harness Technologies has control of all aspects of this product, the quality and consistency should exceed industry norms.
  • Flexibility. Harness Technologies possesses the ability to engineer their nonwoven product to fit many needs. This allows flexibility in the product development stage as well as in-process changes needed.

We believe the unique construction and properties of this pad have potential applications in the following industries:
